Title IX
"No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." - Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972
Title IX was originally introduced as part of the Education Amendments of 1972 to the 1964 Civil Rights Act, and is enforced by the U.S. Department of Education. This federal law prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs or activities operated by recipients of federal financial assistance in the United States. Title IX applies to all participants of such programs, including students and employees. The purpose of Title IX is to help foster safe and respectful university environments that better protect students, faculty and staff from incidents of sex-based discrimination and sexual harassment, including sexual violence, relationship violence and stalking.
Herzing University does not discriminate on the basis of sex and prohibits sex discrimination in any education program or activity that it operates, as required by Title IX and its regulations, including in admission and employment. Sex-based discrimination includes discrimination based on sex, pregnancy, parental status, gender identity or expression, transgender identity, and sexual orientation. Sex-based discrimination also includes sexual harassment, sexual assault, sex-based stalking, sexual exploitation, and dating violence or domestic violence.
The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for implementing the policy prohibiting sex- and gender-based discrimination.
